Dreams of Paradise

Dreams of Paradise

The "Dreams of Paradise" exhibition was a covid commentary on the bans on non-essential travel.

The titles reference these restraints and resultant longings.

Enchanted Forest

Enchanted Forest

In 2017 a friend commissioned me to paint the inside of a curve of maple bark in memory of her mother. In 2018, 22 maple bark paintings later, "Enchanted Forest" was exhibited at Galerie Vieux Forgeron. These photographs of each piece posing in the forest formed the exhibition catalogue. To read more about this project click here.

Chaosymmetry Project

Chaosymmetry Project

For years I have been photographing the same seven acres of forest and stream, many times in close up, framed detail. Chaosymmetry came from the days of getting two for one prints of photographs at a developer. All at once, one day, two photographs lined up and created a world that I was to follow for several years afterwards. I called it the Chaosymmetry Project since nature is, in it's appearance, seemingly chaotic and random, yet when two of the same photographs were paired, symmetry that felt amazing and magical would appear.

I paired dozens of these double photographs not knowing what, if anything, they meant to my creative process. Next step was an idea to photocopy the doubles and colour them symmetrically. This coincided with the illness of a dear friend. I coloured one a day, in a meditative process of being present for this friend for that time each day. When he passed away, that part of the project ended.

Next began a stage of cutting the double photographs printed on paper into strips and weaving them together, so trees and water wove in an out of each, little windows into tiny worlds appeared in a bale of hay. Everything slowly became interconnected again following this loss.
Another step was mounting multiples of doubles to create a series of mirrored images.
“Chaosymmetry" was exhibited in the Reading Room of the Haskell Library in 1997.

For almost forty years we have lived in a small farmhouse on seven acres of Québec's boreal forest with a small stream running through it. Daily wanderings through this magical piece of untouched wilderness have resulted in thousands of photographs.  I hope you enjoy this small glimpse into of this everchanging natural world which inspires so much of my artmaking, music and connection.
