Dreams of Paradise : Non-Essential Travel in the Time of Covid
My first painting of 2021, delivered yesterday to the gallery at Le P’tit Bonheur de Saint-Camille
for an upcoming virtual exhibition featuring RAVIR artists and performers (more on this later!)
Immersed in this covid confined winter, these tropical colours called out to me in my studio.
As humans with imaginations, we can imagine our personal dreams of paradise!
As artists, we can take our dreams and translate them into communicable images and sounds.
“Non-Essential Travel in the Time of Covid”, is a play on words, referencing Gabriel Garcia’ Marquez’s novel,
“Love in the Time of Cholera” in which the lovers love in the midst of plagues and civil war.
It’s also also a comment on how art and culture are considered non-essential by governments.
The ongoing creativity and generosity of the cultural community is helping us all survive this difficult time,
including the plea for non-essential travel, with humour, flexibility and grace.
